The automotive industry in Europe is facing significant changes that will also impact the logistics of Mercedes-Benz. The company plans to close its logistics center in Wetzikon by the end of January 2027. Future deliveries to Swiss service partners will be handled from the logistics center in Reutlingen, southern Germany. This decision was communicated to the approximately 60 employees at the Wetzikon site today, and a consultation process has been initiated.<\/p>\n

Structural Changes in the Automotive Market<\/h3>\n

In recent years, the automotive market in Europe and Switzerland has fundamentally changed. Technological developments have created new demands for service and parts supply. To meet current market conditions and ensure competitiveness, Mercedes-Benz has decided to consolidate its logistics network for spare parts. The closure of the logistics center in Wetzikon is part of this strategy.<\/p>\n

Mercedes-Benz understands the challenges that a closure brings for the affected employees. The company has examined various scenarios and is currently pursuing the option of a closure, even though no final decision has been made yet.<\/p>\n

Consultation Process and Support for Employees<\/h3>\n

The closure of the logistics center in Wetzikon would affect more than 60 employees. Some of the tasks may potentially be relocated to the Schlieren site or to other locations in Europe. The affected employees were personally informed about the plans today, and a consultation process has been initiated to collaboratively develop solutions.<\/p>\n

In the event of a final closure of the site, a social plan would come into effect. This includes severance payments, the possibility of early retirement, and outplacement counseling. Additionally, comprehensive support will be offered for job searching to facilitate the transition for employees.<\/p>\n
