The intralogistics provider SSI Sch\u00e4fer contributes to the focal exhibition ‘Experience Logistics’ at the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne. The 14-meter-high automated small parts warehouse was chosen as a prominently visible exhibit.<\/p>\n

(Neunkirchen\/Sieg) The last few months have taught us how important functioning material flows and supply chains are in daily life. With the 14 m high automated small parts warehouse (ASW) in the focal exhibition of the Transport Museum in Lucerne, SSI Sch\u00e4fer provides visitors with an insight behind the scenes of intralogistics, thereby promoting the understanding of the often invisible processes.<\/p>\n

The economic and living space of Switzerland functions thanks to efficient logistics, communication, and transport systems; globally, nationally, and locally. Illustrating this impressively is the goal of the focal exhibition ‘Experience Logistics!’, which the Swiss Transport Museum has launched together with the Logistics Foundation Switzerland and various renowned partners in the industry. As a leading solution provider of storage and logistics systems, SSI Sch\u00e4fer supports the project with a full-size automated small parts warehouse.<\/p>\n

1,824 Container Storage Locations<\/strong><\/h5>\n

15 tons of steel form the framework of the ASW. The 14 m high rack has been hot-dip galvanized for outdoor use at the Transport Museum, making it weather-resistant. In the three aisles, 1,824 container storage locations are available.<\/p>\n

Automated small parts warehouses are operated by storage and retrieval machines (SRM), which move automatically in the aisles of the warehouse, controlled centrally by logistics software, and handle the loading and unloading of containers. The SRMs are not weatherproof and have therefore been printed in full size as high-resolution visualizations (renderings) and integrated into the aisles. This provides visitors with a realistic picture of the actual size of an automated warehouse for small parts.<\/p>\n

Euro Containers from In-House Production<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The ASW has been equipped with yellow and red Euro containers made of plastic. The containers, produced in-house, measure 600x400x220 mm and correspond to the containers used in practice, but have been UV-stabilized for outdoor use and feature a bottom with holes to allow rain and meltwater from snow to drain away.<\/p>\n

Efficient Assembly in Collaboration with Atlas Montagen<\/strong><\/h5>\n

SSI Sch\u00e4fer realized the assembly of the ASW in collaboration with its long-standing partner Atlas Montagen from Switzerland. Assembly in the field of storage technology is a matter of trust and is subject to legal requirements. Personnel must have special training that specifically prepares them for work at heights and is therefore legally permitted. The outdoor use at the Transport Museum was also exceptional for the assembly team and was carried out diligently and precisely.<\/p>\n

The ASW from SSI Sch\u00e4fer can be viewed as part of the special exhibition ‘Experience Logistics!’ until August 2022 at the Transport Museum.<\/p>\n
