On June 10, an info container from Contargo will start its journey in Basel to seven other terminal locations. The next stop is Strasbourg, and the tour is expected to end on August 28, 2021, in Emmerich. The goal of this initiative is to motivate employees and residents to participate in the waste collection campaign RhineCleanUp 2021 along the Rhine on September 11.<\/p>\n
“The Rhine is an important transport route for us, and we feel particularly connected to the river,” says Cok Vinke, Managing Director at Contargo Waterway Logistics. “On average, one of our container inland vessels replaces 224 truck trips in the main run, and we have 46 ships in operation. That is sustainable.” <\/p>\n
The kickoff for the “My Rhine Tour 2021” took place in Basel, where RhineCleanUp presented the initiative at a press conference. Also present was Prof. Dr. Andreas Fath from the University of Furtwangen, who presented initial results of his current water samples there. In 2014, Contargo hosted him and his team from “Rheines Wasser” at several locations.This year, Contargo invites RhineCleanUp to several locations: “Our terminals are the perfect backdrop for this marketing campaign,” says Kristin Kahl, Sustainable Solutions at Contargo. “The centerpiece is our sponsored 20-foot container, a real eye-catcher. The container was designed by two graffiti artists to make the issue \u2013 a clean river \u2013 immediately recognizable. Our Maintenance & Repair team carried out the magnificent maritime interior design to create a mobile info and action center at the Duisburg Intermodal Terminal.” <\/p>\n
Inside and around the container, Contargo employees, residents, as well as politicians and the press will be presented with the results of the respective water quality and many other information regarding inland shipping, low and high water, and climate change. This aims to not only raise awareness of these issues but also motivate people to join thousands of others on September 11 to help clean the Rhine and its banks of litter under the leadership of the non-profit organization RhineCleanUp. <\/p>\n
