De controles op Zwitserse luchthavens en grensovergangen tonen vaak aan dat ogenschijnlijk onschuldige souvenirs of luxeartikelen zijn vervaardigd uit materialen van bedreigde diersoorten of planten. In Zwitserland is de invoer van producten zoals ivoor, alligatorleer en andere producten van beschermde soorten ofwel verboden of alleen toegestaan met een speciale vergunning volgens het CITES-natuurbehoudsverdrag. Om het bewustzijn over deze voorschriften te vergroten, presenteert het Zwitserse Douanemuseum de tentoonstelling „Natuurbehoud raakt ons allemaal“. Deze wordt op 5 april 2026 geopend en markeert het begin van het seizoen 2026.<\/p>\n

Illegale invoer en de gevolgen<\/h3>\n

Medewerkers van het Federaal Bureau voor Douane en Grensbeveiliging (BAZG) worden regelmatig geconfronteerd met de illegale invoer van goederen. Tot de meest voorkomende in beslag genomen voorwerpen behoren accessoires en horlogebanden van reptielenleer, evenals kostbare Shahtoosh-wollen sjaals. Overtredingen van de invoervoorschriften kunnen leiden tot inbeslagname van de goederen en het opleggen van boetes. Naast de controles is preventie van groot belang. Om deze reden worden de medewerkers van het BAZG speciaal opgeleid en krijgen zij ondersteuning van speciaal opgeleide honden die zijn getraind om illegale goederen op te sporen. De samenwerking met Zwitserse autoriteiten en internationale partners is ook cruciaal om de illegale handel in beschermde soorten te bestrijden.<\/p>\n

De tentoonstelling in de Cantine di Gandria, die met steun van het Federaal Bureau voor Voedselveiligheid en Veterinaire Zaken (BLV) is gerealiseerd, biedt bezoekers de mogelijkheid om zich intensief met het onderwerp natuurbehoud bezig te houden. Hier wordt uitgelegd hoe het CITES-verdrag werkt, welke risico’s verbonden zijn aan de illegale handel en welke rol de douane speelt bij de handhaving van deze voorschriften.<\/p>\n

Inzichten in de wereld van natuurbehoud<\/h3>\n

Een deel van de door de douane in beslag genomen goederen wordt opgeslagen in het magazijn van het BLV, terwijl enkele van deze objecten in het Zwitserse Douanemuseum worden tentoongesteld. Dit omvat een tafeltje met een poot van een olifantenvoet, ivoorsnijwerk, dierenkappen, opgezette slangen en orchideeensoep. De tentoonstelling biedt multimediale inhoud, een spel voor kinderen en een grote informatiepaneel die bezoekers meeneemt op een ontdekkingsreis over het onderwerp natuurbehoud. Tot de meest opvallende exposities behoren twee olifantensto tusk die in grootte overeenkomen met een mens.<\/p>\n

Naast de tentoonstelling „Natuurbehoud raakt ons allemaal“ kunnen bezoekers ook de tentoonstelling „Een verhaal van armoede en vervolging“ en de foto-expositie „Migratie“ bezichtigen. Het Zwitserse Douanemuseum opent op zondag 5 april 2026 zijn deuren en is tot 18 oktober 2026 van dinsdag tot zondag geopend van 12.00 tot 17.00 uur. De toegang is gratis.<\/p>\n
