In de nacht van 10 op 11 mei 2026 heeft de Zwitserse Federale Spoorwegen (SBB) op verschillende locaties voor de Gotthard-basis tunnel nieuwe ontsporingsdetectoren in gebruik genomen. Deze maatregel volgt op de ontsporing van een goederentrein in augustus 2023, waarvan de oorzaak een wielbreuk was. De detectoren zijn ge\u00efnstalleerd op een kritieke sectie om de veiligheid in het spoorverkeer te verhogen, vooral op de toegangswegen waar zowel personen- als goederentreinen met hoge snelheid rijden.<\/p>\n

Technologie voor vroege detectie van ontsporingen<\/h3>\n

Ontsporingdetectoren zijn de enige beproefde technologie die het mogelijk maakt om ontsporingen vanuit de infrastructuur te detecteren. Hun doel is om in het onwaarschijnlijke geval van een hernieuwd voorval een botsing tussen treinen te voorkomen. Er wordt echter benadrukt dat deze technologie ontsporingen zelf niet kan voorkomen. Om de veiligheid verder te verhogen, is een verbeterd onderhoud van de goederenwagons noodzakelijk. Daarnaast wordt een aanpassing van het aansprakelijkheidsrecht in het spoorweggoederenvervoer ge\u00ebist, aangezien momenteel het vervoerende spoorwegbedrijf (EVU) aansprakelijk is, terwijl de wagonhouders slechts beperkte prikkels hebben om in de veiligheid van hun wagons te investeren.<\/p>\n

De SBB ondersteunt de aanbevelingen van de Zwitserse Veiligheidsinspectie (SUST), die in haar eindrapport over de ontsporing vaststelde dat scheuren in de wielen vroegtijdig moeten worden gedetecteerd om soortgelijke incidenten in de toekomst te voorkomen. De SBB is ervan overtuigd dat de uitvoering van de daaruit voortvloeiende maatregelen de veiligheid in het internationale spoorweggoederenvervoer verder zal verhogen.<\/p>\n

Opheffing van de snelheidsbeperking<\/h3>\n

Met de ingebruikname van de nieuwe ontsporingsdetectoren wordt de eerder geldende tijdelijke snelheidsbeperking van 160 km\/u in het gebied van de portaalspoorwissels voor de Gotthard-basis tunnel opgeheven. Deze beperking was sinds de herinbedrijfstelling van de tunnel in september 2024 van kracht en had geen negatieve gevolgen voor de reizigers of de aansluitingen in Ticino en de Duitstalige Zwitserland. Echter, het verminderde de rijtijdreserves die nodig zijn om vertragingen op te vangen.<\/p>\n

De SBB streeft met deze maatregelen naar het doel om de veiligheid in het spoorverkeer verder te verbeteren en de risico’s voor alle verkeersdeelnemers te minimaliseren.<\/p>\n
