(Zurich/Lucerne) The “turning point” has seemingly opened a Pandora’s box of supply chains for politics and business. The impact on the political and ethical values in Germany has rarely been so dramatically highlighted as with the capitulation of the Greens in Qatar, before the energy and defense industries, and before the political power of a Putin. Realpolitik once again takes precedence over value-based politics. Decisions are made without their effects on the global and complex value creation systems being sufficiently illuminated or understood.
Transparency of Supply Chain Dependencies
The lockdown during the Covid crisis has made the dependencies on critical supply goods in global, multi-tier value chains transparent. At the same time, it has also highlighted the impact on the consumption of fossil energy sources and environmental pollution.
The specter of energy shortages, which has instilled fear and terror in society in Europe, has also produced winners and triggered investments. Investments in the future extraction of fossil or nuclear energy sources worldwide exceed investments in the capacities of sustainable energies.
Preservation of Economic Viability
The predicted demographic change is here. Coupled with a new work ethic, it tends to lead to significantly fewer available workers in the national economic system. It is no longer about economic growth, but rather about preserving economic viability.
In the search for solutions, it is not only automation that is required, but also the design of value creation networks must be questioned and redesigned.
