FIEGE Breaks Ground for Logistics Center in Bülach/Switzerland

Fiege is expanding its location in Bülach, Switzerland. A new logistics center with 17,000 square meters of additional storage space is being built in close proximity to Zurich Airport. Completion is planned for summer 2024.

(Greven/Bülach) Room for growth: Fiege has held a symbolic and belated groundbreaking ceremony for its new and state-of-the-art multi-user center in Bülach, Switzerland. Starting in summer 2024, Fiege will offer its customers from the e-commerce, retail, and industry sectors even more efficient logistics processes and flexible growth prospects near Zurich.

Jens Fiege, Co-CEO of the Fiege Group, which has been led by him and his cousin Felix Fiege in the fifth generation, says: “We have been successfully working with our customers and partners in Switzerland for over 25 years and feel very comfortable here. A special thanks goes to the municipality of Bülach for allowing us to continue growing at this special location. With the new building, we can meet the diverse requirements of our customers even more precisely – the new logistics center is a true milestone for our business in Switzerland.”

Just a Stone’s Throw from Zurich Airport

Martin Heinrich, Fiege branch manager in Bülach, adds: “The fact that Zurich Airport is just a stone’s throw away and the Swiss-German border is nearby ensures optimal access to the Swiss market and increases the attractiveness of the location.” Additionally, the project is favored by the fact that the new logistics center is being built adjacent to the already existing Fiege location. “Suitable areas for new construction projects are rare in Switzerland. The proximity of the two logistics centers allows us to achieve valuable synergy effects,” says Heinrich.

While pallets will primarily be stored in high racks on the ground floor, Fiege plans to implement an automated warehouse using Autostore on the upper floor. “This also works under air deprivation, so we are well protected in terms of fire safety,” explains Heinrich. The logistics center will feature demand-controlled LED lighting and an air heat pump. Fiege plans to produce most of the required energy through a PV system on the roof.

Employees Should Feel Comfortable

With its forward-looking and energy-efficient construction, the property meets the Gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Furthermore, Fiege places great importance on optimal working conditions: “We want our colleagues to enjoy working with us. Therefore, bright offices and pleasant break rooms were a must. However, the absolute highlight is certainly the large rooftop terrace,” says Heinrich. The developer of the logistics center is a real estate fund from Credit Suisse Asset Management, which is realizing the building tailored to Fiege’s requirements.
