Oct 31, 2024 at 5:56 PMRheinPorts GmbH, a pioneer in the digitalization of inland shipping, is restructuring: The previous managing director Felix Harder (45) will now drive the digital transformation of inland shipping together with Aurel Wernli (36) and Joachim Holstein (57). Joachim Holstein is the corporate representative for inland shipping at duisport, while Aurel Wernli is the project manager for digitalization at the Swiss Rhine Ports.
(Basel) “We now have a powerful trio at the helm of RheinPorts, with which we can navigate some knots faster to achieve our goal: to digitalize inland shipping and the ports along the Rhine and to introduce a modern and sustainable standard for data exchange. This is the foundation for an efficient and seamlessly connected future for this important mode of transport,” says supervisory board member Lars Nennhaus.
Supervisory board member Martin Nusser adds: “We want to provide the mode of transport inland shipping and the ports with a decisive competitive advantage through the newly developed, future-oriented digital infrastructure.” In addition to Lars Nennhaus, technical board member at duisport, and Martin Nusser, deputy director of the Swiss Rhine Ports, Dr. Sandra Strohbücker (duisport) and Roland Blessinger (Swiss Rhine Ports) are also members of the supervisory board of RheinPorts.
Core Product RiverPorts Planning
The core product of RheinPorts is the RiverPorts Planning and Information System (RPIS), an internet-based platform through which essential data about ships, cargo, travel routes, and unloading planning are exchanged in real-time among inland shipping operators, handling terminals, ports, and, if applicable, customs. The system is already in use at the port of Basel and will also be implemented at the Duisburg port by summer 2025.
