Dec 12, 2024 at 7:40 PMThe Swiss Post provides an interim assessment of the package peak season and shows how many packages employees processed for customers around the discount days Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The special discounts from retailers have led to a significant number of packages for the Post.
(Bern) In total, between November 25 and December 3, 2024, around 7.5 million packages were sorted and delivered by Post employees. This is nearly 500,000 packages more than during the same period in 2023, setting a new record.
Peak season for around 19,000 employees
A total of around 14,500 delivery personnel are employed by the Post. Most of them are on so-called mixed routes, delivering letters, newspapers, advertising materials, and packages. About 3,400 of them are exclusively package couriers. Additionally, around 4,500 employees work in sorting centers to ensure that all shipments reach the correct region and subsequently the correct delivery route.
One of the tireless package couriers of the Post is LoÏc Monneret. He delivers packages daily in the Yverdon-les-Bains region: “We clearly feel the discount week at the end of November every year. It marks the start of an intense period that lasts until Christmas. Therefore, teamwork is important for us. We make sure to support each other so that we can distribute the work across as many shoulders as possible. I am fortunate to share this task with colleagues I greatly appreciate.”
Delivery until and including December 24
To ensure that all gifts arrive on time for Christmas, the Post has implemented numerous measures. Currently, postal workers are on over 350 additional delivery routes every day. Furthermore, Post employees sort and clear shipments on Saturdays as well. The conveyor belts in the three largest package centers – Härkingen (SO), Daillens (VD), and Frauenfeld (TG) – operate for 22 hours instead of 18 hours. Nationwide, around 500 additional temporary workers support Post employees in their work, particularly in the sorting centers.
The Post recommends sending Christmas cards and packages as early as possible. Postal workers will be on duty until Tuesday, December 24, 2024, ensuring that all letters and packages that are dispatched on time reach mailboxes and doorsteps before Christmas.
