Coop Group expands collaboration with Blue Yonder
Sep 25, 2025 at 12:09 PMThe Federal Office of Transport announced on Monday that work on the traffic master plan, part underground freight transport, will only continue once the outstanding issues from the federal perspective are clarified. The decision was made following a joint meeting of the UVEK, the cantons involved, and the city of Zurich with CST.
(Bern/Basel) This aligns with the assessment of CST AG, which emphasized the need for political support in a press release on September 8 to create security for investors. The Chairman of the Board and the CEO of CST AG also pointed this out during the meeting on Monday at UVEK.
In the discussion of a parliamentary interpellation regarding CST, Federal Councillor Albert Rösti, head of UVEK, reaffirmed on the same day that the doors for CST remain open and that constructive dialogue will continue. He explicitly welcomed private sector innovation but also expects that the benefits of CST for the public—especially traffic relief—will be presented more effectively. The current management of Cargo sous terrain has recognized this, and they intend to maintain close contact.
The review report initiated by UVEK and conducted by independent experts in the summer of 2025 confirmed that CST can be technically feasible, economically sensible, and socially beneficial. As CST announced on September 8, the goal remains to develop an innovative and forward-looking logistics solution for Switzerland. City logistics is the first significant step toward a comprehensive infrastructure solution; it creates tangible effects in urban areas, provides reliable data on quantities and benefits, and thus lays the foundation for later expansion with tunnel infrastructure.
Vision remains an underground logistics solution
“The vision of CST remains an innovative and forward-looking underground logistics solution for Switzerland—our goal is to resume work on the tunnel system at the appropriate time,” said Christian Späth, CEO of Cargo sous terrain AG.
