Commercial Vehicle Association ASTAG and GS1 Switzerland in Cooperation

(Bern) The Swiss road transport industry and the logistics sector are clearly committed to sustainability, understood as a triad of economy, society, and environment. A central concern is the decarbonization of the industry according to the public mandate from the yes vote in the referendum on the Climate and Innovation Act (KlG) of 2023. Numerous companies have already made investments in the billions in recent years to introduce the latest technologies or to convert their vehicle fleets to emission-free drive types (electric, hydrogen, biodiesel). The Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association ASTAG and GS1 Switzerland aim to support their member companies in their commitment to the environment and climate as effectively as possible. They have therefore decided to enhance the coordination of their two initiatives “Lean & Green” (GS1) and “We go green!” (ASTAG).

Exchange of Experience and Best Practices

The international initiative “Lean & Green,” launched in the Netherlands in 2008, is now established in 15 European countries and unites over 700 companies. A core element of the initiative is a structured five-step plan for reducing CO₂ emissions, which is verified through external audits and rewarded with recognized awards. Beyond certifications, “Lean & Green” sees itself as a national and international community and has developed over the years into a competence center for sustainable logistics. The ASTAG campaign “We go green!”, developed based on a climate resolution adopted in 2021 and renewed in 2025, emphasizes the voluntary commitments of companies in favor of climate and environment. Association members commit, among other things, to continuously modernize their vehicle fleets and promote responsible green logistics. Thus, “Lean & Green” and “We go green!” complement each other ideally: both initiatives rely on voluntary engagement, measurable progress, and a strong industry community.

Exchange of Experience and Mutual Learning

The collaboration between GS1 Switzerland and ASTAG aims to strengthen networking. Specifically, it focuses on the exchange of experience, mutual learning, and best practices – for the benefit of the environment and climate.
