Rail loses market share in cross-Alpine freight transport by 2025
Mar 12, 2026 at 7:11 PMThe Post presented its annual financial results under difficult conditions, overshadowed by a tragic accident. Several people lost their lives in a fire involving a postal vehicle in the municipality of Kerzers, including the driver of the vehicle. The Board of Directors and the executive management express their condolences to the bereaved and support the ongoing investigations by the relevant authorities. Despite these tragic circumstances, the Post is presenting its annual report, demonstrating its responsibility towards the public.
Financial Results Overview
In its operational business, the Post achieved an operating profit of 332 million Swiss francs, which represents a decline of 82 million Swiss francs compared to the previous year. The group profit decreased by 20 million Swiss francs to 315 million Swiss francs. The success of PostFinance significantly contributed to this result, despite the challenges posed by a difficult interest rate environment. Group CEO Pascal Grieder emphasizes that without the contribution from PostFinance, the operating profit would have been nearly balanced. Alex Glanzmann, Head of Finance, highlights that the Post has remained efficient despite the challenging framework conditions.
The digital transformation is showing positive developments. The new Post app is gaining popularity, and the number of digitally sent shipments increased by 60 percent to 4.5 million in 2025. Additionally, 360,000 private customers have subscribed to receive digital shipments, representing a 90 percent increase compared to the previous year. These developments underscore the growing importance of digital communication.
Developments in the Logistics and Mail Market
In the logistics sector, the Post recorded an increase in parcel volumes to 186.6 million shipments, which corresponds to a rise of 3.7 percent. PostFinance achieved an operating profit of 290 million Swiss francs, supported by new digital investment and retirement solutions. In contrast, the mail market experienced a decline of 4.2 percent in addressed shipments, leading to a revenue drop of 85 million Swiss francs in the mail and newspaper business.
To address the financial challenges, the Post plans to sharpen its strategy by 2030. The focus will be on strengthening the core areas of logistics, communication, mobility, and financial services. CEO Grieder explains that the Post aims to work less but with more focus and impact. The goal is to increase the profit contribution from the parcel business and accelerate growth in the investment business.
Outlook and Strategic Measures
The Post will continue to make price adjustments and will need to reduce internal costs to ensure a financially viable basic service. By 2030, processes in internal areas are to be simplified to work more efficiently. Furthermore, the Post will rely on political support to engage in a dialogue about the scope of basic services and to maintain entrepreneurial freedom.
CEO Grieder acknowledges the solidarity within the company and emphasizes the strength of the team, especially in difficult times. The Post will continue to offer its services and face market challenges while keeping the victims of the tragic accident in its thoughts.
