The MSC company Medlog and its partner China Master Logistics Co Ltd. (CMLOG) have jointly opened a new cold storage facility in Shanghai with an area of 24,000 m². This facility is the third and largest in a joint network that also includes two additional cold storage locations near China’s major seaports, Tianjin and Ningbo. All three sites are part of Medlog’s expansion in the cold storage sector along the Chinese coast, aimed at supporting the growth of cross-border trade with cold chains.
Optimization of Cold Chain Logistics in China
The new cold storage facility is strategically located in Lingang, a special comprehensive free trade zone in Shanghai. It has been specifically designed to optimize cold chain logistics for imports into China and to meet the rising global demand for fresh products. Equipped with advanced intelligent cooling technologies, including iWMS, iWCS, and AGV, the facility sets standards for smart and standardized operations of cold storage companies domestically.
The warehouse offers both bonded and non-bonded areas and has a capacity of 80,000 tons. This shortens the connection between national warehousing and cross-border shipping. Since beef is China’s most important import commodity, the new cold storage has been specifically designed for the storage of frozen meat as well as frozen and chilled seafood, dairy products, fruits, and consumer goods.
