Rotterdam Port Promotion visits Logistics Region Basel
Apr 7, 2026 at 2:53 PMGXO Logistics celebrated the opening of its new location in Sant’Antonino, Switzerland, on March 31, 2026. During a ceremony attended by GXO CEO Patrick Kelleher, along with other executives and local representatives, the site was inaugurated as part of the company’s global network. The new logistics hub is intended to serve as a technologically advanced and future-oriented facility.
The location in the Canton of Ticino represents a strategic hub for GXO. It connects Northern and Southern Europe and is linked to key international logistics corridors. The excellent accessibility provided by road and rail infrastructure supports significant freight flows. Notably, the rail connection to the Swiss Post’s main sorting center in Härkingen enables faster logistics and contributes to supply chain efficiency.
With this opening, GXO strengthens its presence in Switzerland and relies on a multilingual team capable of communicating in the four national languages. Paul Mohan, President of GXO for Continental Europe, emphasized that the Sant’Antonino location reflects the company’s growth strategy in the region, which is based on modern infrastructure and a long-term vision.
Technology and Automation in Focus
Automation plays a central role at the new location. It aims to increase productivity and enhance safety compared to traditional warehouses. Technical facilities include a multi-shuttle system for the storage and picking of light products, as well as an automated pallet shuttle system for heavy and bulky items. Overall, the site offers space for 14,000 containers and 600 pallets.
The logistics processes are designed to enable efficient order processing. At 60 packing stations, products are sequenced and consolidated. Additionally, automated packing stations help increase the density of outgoing packages. Mobile shelving systems, which can reach heights of up to 15 meters, allow for space-saving pallet storage.
The site covers an area of 20,000 m² and offers a total usable area of 55,000 m². With its height and 20 loading and unloading bays, the facility is designed for a future-oriented operating model. The arrangement of processes aims to optimize the organization of activities and ensure efficient space utilization.
Furthermore, the facility meets strict environmental standards. It is certified with LEED Platinum and ISO 14001 and features solar panels covering an area of 20,000 m², generating approximately 800,000 kWh annually. Systems for monitoring energy consumption and waste management support responsible resource management.
Alessandro Renzo, Managing Director of GXO Italy and Switzerland, emphasized that the company’s growth is based on creating environmentally friendly locations that optimize processes and reduce waste. This balance is crucial for the development of GXO’s presence in Switzerland.
