10 Years of Logistics Software by Sirum
May 7, 2026 at 8:40 AMThe cargo sector at EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg developed overall steadily in 2025, despite the continued volatility of international supply chains. EuroAirport was able to further solidify its role as a significant logistics hub for time- and temperature-sensitive goods – particularly for the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry in Northwestern Switzerland. The high importance of this sector continues to shape the airport’s cargo profile.
The focus was primarily on high-quality special cargo rather than pure volume growth. The airport is increasingly positioning itself as a quality and niche location with a focus on:
- Pharmaceutical and healthcare logistics
- Express and courier services
- Temperature-controlled transport
- Time-critical industrial and spare parts logistics
Cargo volumes were slightly below the previous year overall, but remained at a solid level. By October 2025, approximately 85,000 tons of total cargo had been handled, representing a decline of about 3.8% compared to 2024. At the same time, the import sector, in particular, proved to be robust.
Another strategic focus was the strengthening of cargo infrastructure. Swissport expanded its cargo areas at EuroAirport by an additional 800 m² in 2025 to meet the increasing import volume and the demands of international airlines. This enhances the competitiveness of the location, especially in the pharmaceutical sector.
Additionally, EuroAirport maintained its international significance as a location for the outfitting and maintenance of VVIP aircraft and specialized business jets. This industrial sector remains an important second pillar alongside the traditional passenger and cargo business.
Infrastructure
2025 was characterized by numerous infrastructure and modernization projects. The airport is investing heavily in long-term capacity assurance and quality improvement. Investments of around 500 million Swiss francs are planned for the next seven years.
Important projects and developments:
- Modernization and expansion of waiting areas at the southern gates
- Preparation for the “Modular Development of the Terminal” (EMT)
- Expansion and renewal of gastronomic offerings
- Reopening of part of the observation terrace after about ten years
- Digitalization of customer engagement with a new mobile website
- Further investments in maintenance and operational safety
