Jul 1, 2026 at 9:48 AMThe Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) has informed about the current status of the digitization of Swiss customs through the „Passar News 1/2026“. The focus is on the next development steps of the new goods traffic system Passar as well as important information for companies, freight forwarders, and software providers.
Following the successful introduction of Passar in the areas of export and transit, the implementation of Passar 2.0 for imports is now progressing. The pilot operation for standard imports is already running with selected companies. A gradual expansion to additional users is planned before the system is rolled out nationwide. At the same time, the BAZG is working on further digitization projects, including the replacement of the previous import application e-dec and the digitization of additional customs procedures.
Companies that handle cross-border goods movements should closely monitor the current information and timelines and prepare their internal processes and IT systems in advance for the upcoming changes. The BAZG particularly recommends ensuring the necessary registrations in the ePortal and collaborating with the respective software providers in a timely manner.
With Passar, the BAZG aims to fully digitize customs procedures, reduce administrative burdens, and facilitate cross-border goods traffic more efficiently.
